Question: If we decided to buy an Apple computer to replace our five year old Dell desktop, but we would still be using Windows on our laptops (excuse me, I mean "notebooks"), how high would the "this is fucking annoying" factor be, having to constantly go between the two operating systems?
Upon further pondering, it would probably be on par with my car having the turn signal on the right side of the steering wheel, whilst (huh, am I turning Australia?) my husband's car has the turn signal on the left side of the steering wheel. When you forget which car you're in and switch the wrong side, the windshield wipers come on.
We course we both prefer driving my new car.
The funny thing is, this photo looks exactly like the inside of my car and gives off the same kind of confused feeling you get when your windshield wipers start going instead of the turn signal.

Funny, I'm toying with buying a Mac for our home use when my wife's Dell finally dies. I just hate paying so much money for not that much better a machine.
That photo of the car makes my eyes twist.
Did you sell your Odyssey yet? I've heard good things about them, but... a minivan is still a minivan. ;-)
just do it. eventually you will switch all of your computers over and you need to start somewhere. and the truth is it will be a little annoying. but you know why? not because are you switching back and forth all the time- but because you will end up freaking hating your PCs and only want to use your mac. anyway i highly recommend pulling up your big boy pants and doing it already.
...but what do i know?
When i first saw that picture i thought shit her photo taking skills are really getting good.. then you busted my bubble.
Going between the 2 operating systems wouldn't be as hard as the blinker thing. At school one classroom has macs and the other has pcs and I work on both of them.
Fiery read-head turned me on to your blog - boy I feel a whole lot better about moving from FL to AZ. Do you think they have meat-flavored chips in the desert?
That picture makes my dizzy!
I want an Odyssy and I want a Mac. Two things I'll probably never get but want want want.
Marvin- I hear ya. Haven't sold the Odyssey yet because we are going home to visit for 6-7 weeks in November so we figured-- it's been this long, a couple more months is fine and we'll get to drive it while we're there. I think I'll put it up on Ebay while I'm home.
Jill-- I know, I know- we're gonna.
Mindy- Psych! Gotcha.
Dana- The red head told me she advised you to read my blog-- boy, I hope it didn't scare you even more about moving. But then again, you'd only be a 4 or 5 hour flight from home-- not too crazy.
I hope for your sake they don't have meat flavored chips in Arizona- I still haven't tried them, hahahaha. When are you moving?
Tracyleigh- The thing is-- the Australian Odysseys are nothing like the American ones. I test drove one and it drove terribly--
Now if we could find a way to bring mine to Australia and have the steering wheel changed over...hmmm.
We have both and it's definitely not as annoying as the indicator thing!
Oh i no what u mean about the indicator problem, have the same issue with my work and personal car... cant stand it!
Update: We got the freaking mac, and it's way more annoying than the turn signal thing. I have no clue what the hell I'm doing on the computer-- it took three days and instructions from a friend (thanks Mindy) to figure out how to cut and paste.
Flori, do you still not love your Mac? Because I'm completely obsessed with mine. I want to take it behind the junior high and get it pregnant.
Rassles, I HAD TO RETURN THE COMPUTER-- I'm so totally yelling.
Can you believe that? It took 20-60 minutes to boot up-- I jumped through hoops with tech support and finally it was declared "dead on arrival"--
Anyway, they are supposed to be sending me a new one. I am so bummed.
Update to the posting:
Incredibly, the analogy I made between the using a pc and apple and driving 2 cars with turn signals on different sides of the steering wheel was very, very accurate-- they were basically equal on the annoying but it's all good scale.
