Get Over It Already

My mom is gone, she's on a plane heading back to the U.S.

We took a ferry from our house to Circular Quay (where the Sydney Opera House is), then a train straight into the International Airport Terminal. Having never lived in an area with real public transportation, every time I successfully arrive at my destination via ferry, train, or bus, I feel like I've accomplished something extraordinary. Yes, I know that's pathetic.

Returning home on the ferry, I sat on the deck outside. I was in the zone reflecting back on the last year; a year I spent/wasted feeling out of place, making comparisons to home, and basically acting bitchy and bitter.

It's stupid and ridiculous, I am living in Sydney, Australia-- one of the most the beautiful places in the world, where kangaroos and koala bears lie on the beach, holding hands and eating meat pies. It's been over a year since we landed here, and I'm painfully aware that it's time to put on my big girl pants and join the barbie (that's Australian for BBQ, duh).

I am officially going snap out of this and seize the day. Today is the first day of the rest of my life--- I couldn't help that coming out of my fingers.

Note to mom:
Please don't wait that long again to get your sweet ass back here.
In the meantime, here's some memories for the road:

My four year old rocking out during the 2008 City to Surf Race in Sydney. 70,000 people ran (or walked) from downtown Sydney to Bondi Beach.

My mom on the ferry en route to the airport, abandoning us here.

We had out doubts about moving the family to Sydney. No more doubts after this post. Funny stuff.

I am so glad to hear it! I think it's great that you are going to join the kaolas on the beach and enjoy it. First thing on the agenda is to get yourself back to that wonderful little town with the toy and train museum. jk. no seriously 1st kaola's, then beach, then barbie, then kangaroo ride.

Well, I'm here in San Fran - arrived safe, sound, and no jet lag! I had a great time and loved getting to meet Mindy and Nathan, too.
So, I've been back 5 hours now - call me!
Miss you alot!

Hey Ron- that was my favorite part too, ha ha. Are you really moving here?

Ty- I don't have Guitar Hero, do you think it's too mature for 3 & 4 year olds? They would probably love it, right? Do they make it for the Wii?

I think "Seize the Fucking Day" is going to become my new battle cry.

Hey FGIS, yep the process has begun. Trying to get interviews and we'll be out for a couple of weeks in Feb or March of next year to line up the details. Will my mustache fly in AU?

I'd be more worried about the American accent than the mustache--
but you can always say you're from Canada.

Awww... Glad you're gonna start anew. I was wondering though... Have you, or your kids developed an accent yet? I love Aussie accents. :-)

Laura said...

Hey Corrina- I have no accent for sure-- though I have started saying brekkie (breakfast) and jumper (jacket)--

My four year old turns on a full blown Australian accent when he's in the mood, or just on certain words. He calls it his "Australian accident".

the two people at 43 seconds to 46 seconds. yea, you see them? well, that's us baby! walking and talking. (remember dared youu!!)

only thing is they don't seem to be holding a giant gloria jeans iced chocolate with mountains of whipped cream and chocolate sprinkles. strange huh, since they are supposed to be us. lol.

i think we'll have to take your kid for entertainment, he is classic!
