It Started With Mochi

Quote of the week:

Said by my five year old when my cute little 85 year old great, great aunt came over for dinner:

"I can't hear you because your voice is quite wrinkley."

a wrinkley voice? cutest thing ever.

I just had a reunion with an old friend too over the holidays. Just the girls, three days. It was wonderful and your story reminded me of that. It's so great to catch up with old friends, especially for us expats. It helps ground us again.

I love mochi! I first had it at a sushi restaurant and then found it at Trader Joe's. Ball sac (sack?) is actually quite an apt description.

I also love that purse. Where did she get it???

What a nice post. We all need a Former Lesbian in our lives.

I so love mochi and haven't had it in ages. Saw it at a Japanese shop in Central Market the other day, so am keen to buy some again:)

Bluestreak- Isn't the seeing friends thing the best? It completely rejuvenated me.

JD- I must find them in Sydney! The purse is from blueq.com.

Suzer- I looked at 2 asian grocers no luck-- help!

You mean to tell me some people have real conversations? Strange!

And now I'm really curious. I want to try this thing (the mochi, not ball sacs).

I. Love. Mochi.

What flavors did you try? Because if you haven't tried Red Bean, you're missing out. Fucking glorious stuff.

I wish I could tell you where to find it in Australia, but alas, I've never been. But you guys are way closer to Japan, so you'd think...I mean, geographically...gahhh, balls.

Mochi are a real delight. Did you get the Bubbies brand?

I have texture issues. I'm not sure I could handle mochi. Although I handle Lancelot's ball sack just fine.

Glad you had a good time catching up with your friend!

The point is you had fun! Thanks for sharing.

Capris and Mad Dog about sums up the mid to late 80's doesn't it? And Ruby Tuesday's curbside pick-up about sums up the U.S. today, doesn't it?

PitS- I recommend trying both. Haha, but really the mochi is so good.

Rassles- I cannot believe this many people have heard of mochi and here I am thinking I'm all ahead of my time.

Nate n Annie- Yes it was Bubbies! Omigod, so good!

Mark- Thanks.

Free Man- Totally. Ah, the wild days.

It's great to have such wonderful friends. I miss my best friens back home- but hopefully over the years I can build bonds as strong here as they were back there!

And I think I only liked mochi the second time I ate it :)First time I wasn't so sure!

New friends are great, but old friends? The kind that you've been through stuff with? The kind that had big hair with you, you know, in the 80s? They're awesome. Glad you had fun.
The bag is adorable and I've never had mochi. It doesn't sound like something I'd love, but I might have to try it anyway.

What a wonderful friendship!

Mochi sounds glucky, like gnocchi but sweetish. ;-)

I'm truly surprised at how many people already know about mochi. I think I should have a mochi party for my friends and see if anyone over 50, ahem, over 40? has tried mochi. Bubbe's Mochi was only in vanilla and fruit flavors so I'm wondering about the Red Bean - is that an appy, main dish or side dish?

And, I want to just add that I am happy that I was a part of your world, sharing mochi and your friends with you.

Mmmmm,I can think of nothing better than putting blue balls in my mouth. I've never tried the ice cream filled ones though, maybe I'll put mine on ice and see what happens! ;)

Elsja-- Oh good luck with that-- omigod, was that the pms talking? Sorry, I'm sure we'll both make great friends here haha.

Christine- Yeah, there's no substitute for old friends. I do highly recommend trying mochi!

Marvin- They're not really gnocchi-esque, more like a bon-bon with a gooey shell-- so good-- well, at least I think so.

Pamela Rosie- I think I'm figuring out that there is also mochi that is more like a pastry-- but not sure yet.

NurseMyra- I would love to hook a sister up with ball sacs.

ONeal- You should totally do that. Just don't stick your tongue in the freezer and get stuck there.

Ph mochi are soooo good. It's deceptive because they would seem to be healthier than icecream but they're not. Damned delicious mochi.

Florida Girl In Sydney said...

Nina Bellina- You so need the ball sac.

Elisa- Thanks, I just started reading your blog-- wow, you are more of a world traveler than we are!

Corrina- Oh yeah, we all need our lesbians. My new phone date is March 29! I am dying to offload this blackberry pearl-- I'll keep you posted!! Thanks so much for all the cell phone info girlfriend!

JD- I just looked at that bag-- awesome! How do you make a link show as a link in comments???

FF- Yeah, it would be so nice if they were some deceptively delicious health snack. As if.
