Pilgrim Chaos- Welcome to World Youth Day 2008

The Pope is causing a lot of inconvenience in Sydney this week.

Couldn't the 300,000 Catholic "pilgrims" just have watched The Pope speak on television? Obviously, they have yet to experience the incredible picture quality of High Definition.

We took the ferry to preschool today-- to avoid the Catholic Chaos of "World Youth Day" (which is a complete freaking lie- cause this shit is World Youth Week.

I spent about an hour this wondering around downtown, mingling with the "pilgrims", and taking it all in. I was so enamored by the Jesus-ness of it all, I didn't even mind being knocked around by people waving flags and crosses while walking back to Circular Quay.

Clearly there was excitement in the air.

"Jesus Walks", an exhibit of Jesus statues by various artists was very cool. There are thirty-something Jesus statues, featured in different areas around Sydney. And now I have confirmed... like me some Jesus art.

And hanging on the outside of the museum was this:

I'm all about art that sends a message... and this is an important message here in Australia. So I guess if World Youth Week is going to be shoved down our throats-- we may as well take some time to find the good in it all.

And guess what-- tomorrow I have my first private photography class--at Circular Quay-- in the middle of all the hoopla. I am hoping I will come out knowing how to use my camera properly instead of just winging it all the time. Shhweeet.

Have you noticed a relationship between Jesus and capitalism?
