Oprah Oprahfies Australia Woooo-Hoooo!

Have you heard?  Oprah is coming to Sydney, Australia!  Sydney is about to be Oprahfied, and I am so excited.  And I am so, so on it.   I must get tickets to Oprah at The Sydney Opera House, do you know anyone who can help???  Because if this does not happen, I will be devastated.  I was already not chosen by lottery for Breakfast on the Bridge 2009; and that was a major blow to our mission here at Florida Girl in Sydney.

And now, only 24 hours after hearing the big Oprah-does-Sydney news, the Sydney-Mania begins!

Tonight, TLC's "1000 Places to See Before You Die" is featuring-- guess where??... Sydney, Australia!  And the surreal, reality of the situation, once again, is that I cannot believe we really live here.  This TLC made-for-TV-infomercial-documentary is our reality.  Not to mention that it's very entertaining watching two Americans star on a show about Sydney.

Within driving distance from Sydney you can see cliffs, beaches, mountains, sand dunes, and wine country... it's incredible.  And I can take photos of my kids under the Sydney Harbour Bridge any time I want, does it get much better than that?  Oh yeah it does,  Oprah's coming!!!

Quote of the week:
(Said by my friend's son, then relayed to me in a text message with commentary)

"They had the American accent again."-- as if it's the flu.

That's seriously hilarious, I love it.

I love that you're still so excited about living in Sydney that it seems like a mythical place. It's amazing.

Today, I went on The Chocolate Ride, starting in Petersham. Tomorrow, I may do the Ride Like a Pirate (I'll remove one of the lenses on my bike sunglasses to emulate an eyepatch).

Only in Sydney!

I picked up a multi-year supply of dark chocolate-covered peanuts. Except I expect them to last maybe a couple of weeks.

Say hi to Oprah for me. Hell, I live in Chicago, and I've never been to one of her shows. You probably have a better chance of seeing her than I do!

Aren't you too smart to watch Oprah, or to listen to anything she says? ;-)

Rassles- You should soo come here, we've got a guest room!

Steck- Is "The Chocolate Ride" something I need to google???

Natalie- Right, how could she not??

JD- Huh? I thought everyone in Chi-town knew Oprah personally? Wth? I guess I'll see Oprah so you don't have to? :)

Marvin- No comprende? I love Oprah, the only time I was a little off the Oprah koolaid was when she had that season about spirit, it a little too bordering on religiousishness for me. other than that I love me some Oprah.

The Chocolate Ride is an annual bike ride through Marrickville and nearby. Chocolate included.

Here's a podcast about the event.

Loving that you love Sydney so much! Sydney rocks. Especially the jacarandas when you fly into Sydney at the end of Octoberish time. When is Oprah coming ... she might get to see that ...

Laura said...

Nessaknits- Yes-- I love those gorgeous jacaranda trees, which is funny because I grew up in an area of Florida where many neighborhoods started with "Jacaranda"...

What's an Oprah?

Laura said...

PITS- No idea, never heard of it.

NessaKnits said...

I thought jacaranda trees were indigeneous to Australia ... what do I know... (they are South American ....)

I love your enthusiasm about living in Sydney. I started reading your blog earlier this year (from Texas) when we first heard that we "might" be moving to Australia--yeah right.... And now we've been here 6 months and I feel the same way you do. I hope our family's excitement and enthusiasm for living here lasts as long as yours has. Thanks for the inspiration!

oprah is coming and with john travolta...if you get tickets please take me with you.

Laura said...

Nessa- And having grown up in an area where everything started with "jacaranda" how is it possible I didn"t know about the gorgeous purple flowers until moving to Sydney??

Francine- Thanks! So where are you?

Kristi- You'll have to get in line cause if I get tickets I'm going to the most popular girl in Sydney :)

We are in Chatswood West. We thought we would just land here for convenience and then decide where to settle, but we really like the convenience of Chatswood (train, shopping, kids love their school, lots of friends).
Where are you?

Francine- send me an email.. maybe we can meet up, looks like we have kids of similar ages?? flgirlinsydney@gmail.com

And imagine if Ellen came too. It would be too much (he says, having a wife who is addicted to both talk show hosts!). Love your blog and Sydney experiences... Always enjoy reading fellow expat experiences. If you have time, have a peek at my own blog at insearchofalifelessordinary.blogspot.com, which follows our journey from England to Canada to Australia. Maybe you can relate to some of my own experiences although I haven't got to the Oz part of the adventure yet!

Russell- Looks like you are on quite the adventure! Have you been able to take your dogs this whole way?? Cheers mate and welcome to Australia!
